Where to sleep in Avesnois?

This time I turned to my friends Martine and Valérie to come up with the perfect haven of peace and tranquillity for your overnight accommodation!

Fancy spending a lovely Indian summer in a gypsy caravan?  You can in the Avesnois! Just a short distance from Wilfred Owen’s grave in Ors, Valérie and Bernard run “La Cense Lignère” in Prisches , an “Accueil Paysan” – Country Guesthouse – listed former farmstead. Come and tuck into their great breakfasts (comprising their own organic produce) and if you quote “Nicole” when booking you’ll get 15% off too (50 € instead of 60 € for the “La Verrière” room and 70 € instead of 85 € for the “Roulotte du Bocage” gypsy caravan.)

What’s more, if you’ve time to get around a bit in the region, Gérard has put together a great little package for 89.50€ per person  consisting of:

  • 2 nights guesthouse accommodation
  • 2 breakfast hampers left by your bedroom door
  • 1 special local produce hamper for 2
  • Audioguide tour of the Parcours des Sens in Maroilles with tasting

As an alternative you can book with Martine and her lovely “Le Village” guesthouse accommodation in  Englefontaine. Tell her I sent you and she’ll offer breakfast for two adults, Monday to Thursday inclusive, for three nights. The price per night is 55€ for two adults and 45€ for 1.

Another tip from Nicole: there’s plenty of great accommodation available for booking at http://www.jadorelenord.co.uk/
